STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF DISEASE PROGRESSION IN TYPE 2 DIABETES PATIENTS

The Queensland Clinical Trials & Biostatistics Centre (www.sph.uq.edu.au/qctbc) at the School of Population Health, University of Queensland, Australia, is pleased to announce an international collaboration-based Ph. D. Scholarship in Clinical Biostatistics & Epidemiology. This position is open to Australian & international candidates.

Project Title: STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF DISEASE PROGRESSION IN TYPE 2 DIABETES PATIENTS

International Collaborators: Imperial College, London, and University of Leicester, UK.

Duration of Scholarship: 3 years

Scholarship Description
The role of the PhD scholarship will be:
1. To review and engage with the literature on clinical trials and epidemiological studies in Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, relevant to the proposed study;
2. Develop appropriate simulation methods to generate population level data following clinical trial results in the field of Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease;
3. Develop appropriate data management and statistical tools to clean and manage large UK GPRD data set;
4. To engage in the methodological and programming development within the context of the proposed study.

Person Specification
Essential:
â?¢ M. Sc. in Statistics or Biostatistics with strong methodological background and programming ability, with some research experience;
â?¢ Strong motivation to conduct independent research in the field of clinical biostatistics;
â?¢ Excellent programming knowledge with software like R & SAS;
â?¢ Ability to work independently and take responsibility of a programme of work.

Desirable:
â?¢ Interest in clinical research, especially in diabetes and metabolic diseases;
â?¢ Excellent written communication skills.

Remuneration: The scholarship includes a tax-free stipend that is currently worth a minimum of AUD$ 25000 per year for three years.
