Research position

Job description
The candidate will take part in a large research project entitled "Statistical Monitoring Ap¬plied to Research Trials" undergone in collaboration with IDDI, GSK Biologicals, and the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). This project has been approved by Belgian Walloon government within the framework of the 7th call for BioWin projects. The objective of this project is to develop and validate a system for monitoring and statistical control of automated data quality of clinical trials primarily based on multiple and varied statistical analyses of which the results can be exploited by data mining tools and artificial intelligence.

Job requirements
The candidate will hold a Master degree in (bio)statistics or a related discipline (obtained with at least a distinction or an equivalent grade) or a PhD in (bio)statistics or a related discipline. Beside strong statistical and mathematical skills, the candidate should have an interest for applied statistics in clinical settings; good programming skills and experience in the use of sta¬tistical software such as SAS and/or R is a plus. The candidate should be highly motivated, think analytically and creatively and have a good command of French and/or English.

Terms of employment
Contract of 2 years. Salary offered will depend on the candidate qualifications and personal status.

Research environment

The Institute of Statistics, Biostatistics and Actuarial Sciences (ISBA, http://www.uclouvain.be/isba) is a renowned research centre of high international reputation which offers a very stimulating working environment. It is equipped with modern computing facilities, a statistics library, a vivid visitors program and ample funding for scientific travel. At the ISBA there are 4 consultants in statistics an around 30 pre-and postdoctoral researchers working under the supervision of 10 full-time professors, in a variety of fields of methodolog¬ical and applied statistics, including biostatistics and actuarial sciences. ISBA is also part of a large international research network and has numerous academic contacts. It is placed in the heart of a modern, vivid and international university campus in Louvain-la-Neuve, in close proximity of Brussels and its international airport, and in short travel distance to other European capitals. Partof the research will also take place in the IDDI’s office (http://www.iddi.com)also located in Louvain-la-Neuve. IDDI is a eClinical and Biostatistical services provider for clinical trials whose mission is to deliver clinical trials results that are scientifically accurate, validated and reproducible. The company, established in 1991 has been conducting research for more than 20 years, 10 years of which in the fieldof detection of fraud and errors in clinical trials. Active in Europe, the United States and Asia, IDDI has been involved in over 500 clinical trials to date and currently employs 50 people. Close collaborations with the Institute of Inter-Disciplinary Research in Artificial Intelligence (IRIDIA, ULB) and GSK Biologicals are also foreseen.
