Statistics and Probabilities for Information Systems (SIS)

In Conjunction with the 17thPenhellenic Conference on Informatics

September 19 – 21, 2013, Thessaloniki, Greece

Information Systems is a research field of major importance for the organization of many aspects of modern society. The rapid and continuous evolution of technology and especially the evolution of the Internet are changing the problems related to the development, the application and the impact of Information Systems. The notion of Information System is inextricably tied with the collection, management, processing, analysis and production of data. Today’s systems are associated with huge amounts of data and although research in computer science has produced highly advanced methodologies for analyzing them, new complex research challenges come up. Statistics, on the other hand, is considered a well-defined and mature science that has evolved through several centuries now and became sound on the foundations of Mathematics and especially of Probability Theory. Statistics as a science has offered innumerable theories, techniques and tools to all aspects of data analysis in the wide discipline of Information Systems.

The aim of this special session is to bring together scientists from different branches of Information Systems who use or develop advanced statistical or probabilistic methods in their research. We especially encourage contributions addressing novel and complex problems with the use of statistical analysis. The overall goal is to present high quality research papers that can be considered as significant contributions either for Information Systems or Statistics/Probabilities disciplines. On the contrary, papers that contain simple methods like descriptive statistics and common hypothesis tests are out of the scope of this special session.

Submission Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts, in English, as full research papers (8 pages) describing research accomplishments in the topics of interest of SIS 2013. All papers submitted to the Special Session should be formatted according to the ACM SIG Proceedings style templates. At least one author from every accepted paper needs to register and attend the conference. All contributions should be in PDF format and should be submitted electronically via the SIS 2013 EasyChair Page:
