The EPSRC & MRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Statistical
Science is now inviting applications for 10 fully-funded DPhil
studentships at the University of Oxford and the University of Warwick
to start in October 2016. Students with a strong background in
mathematics, statistics and computation are particularly encouraged to
apply. We are seeking to train experts in modern statistical and
machine learning methods.

The CDT focuses on

Β· Training researchers in the core statistical methodology,
computation and theory underpinning modern applications, involving
large high-dimensional, heterogenous data;

Β· Enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration, methodological rigour
and joint understanding in efficient scalable statistical methods for
scientific data analysis;

Β· Building a community of UK and International scholars, concerned
with developing these approaches and methodologies;

Β· Establishing a centre for a network of different interest groups
and disciplianary approaches working towards providing future
industrial and academic research leaders, by enhancing collaboration
between the academic community and practioners (government,
international institutions and private sector);

Successful researchers will be able to program on distributed
high-performance computing and communicate effectively with β€˜data
owners’ (before and after the data collection). They will use these
skills and this knowledge to develop the new theories, methods and
algorithms needed for the analysis of β€œbig data” on massively parallel
modern computing devices. This will revolutionise the way in which
the science industry and government manipulate and handle massive,
heterogeneous data objects.

Because of constraints from funding agencies, there are different
rules for funding depending on your fee status:

* UK and EU students: Full funding (fees and stipend) is available for
successful candidates.
* Non-EU students: Full funding is available for successful
candidates. These studentships are highly sought after. For details
see the web link below

There are two deadlines for applications:

* 22 January 2016 -- all UK and EU applicants should apply by this
deadline for full consideration
* 11 March 2016 -- any remaining UK and EU studentships will be
allocated in the third round

See for further
information and application forms.
