MANCHESTER BUSINESS SCHOOL - MARIE CURIE RESEARCH FELLOW Empty MANCHESTER BUSINESS SCHOOL - MARIE CURIE RESEARCH FELLOW

Thu 28 Jul 2011 - 10:40
UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER
FACULTY OF HUMANITIES
MANCHESTER BUSINESS SCHOOL
MARIE CURIE RESEARCH FELLOW
(Full-time, fixed-term for 24 months)
(REF: HUM/12084)
Salary: £36,862 per annum plus travel allowance in line with Marie Curie FP7 Regulations

Applications are invited for a Marie Curie Research Fellow in the area of counterparty risk. The
successful candidate will join the Marie Curie RISK Management and Reporting training network
based at Manchester Business School.
The purpose of the research is to address key issues relating to counterparty risk. With the 2008-
2010 financial crisis, continuing sovereign market stresses in 2011, and Basel III, there is
increased emphasis on capital adequacy by countries, regulators and the banks themselves.
Credit risk, expressed in counterparty risk is a major part of these concerns whether addressed by
CVA (Credit Value Adjustment) desks or by conventional counterparty risk groups. The increased
emphasis on counterparty risks has highlighted a number of open issues which this project will
address. This area of research is of particular interest to Credit Suisse, a partner in the RISK
network and the candidate will spend a significant part of their time at Credit Suisse, testing the
research hypotheses. This post provides excellent opportunities to gain multi-discipline research
training and exposure to working in universities, the private sector, central banks and professional
organisations.
Applicants should have a PhD degree (preferred) or MSc (followed by several years of directly
relevant experience) in a quantitative field (eg, quantitative or mathematical finance, statistics,
economics, or econometrics) and must be eligible to be appointed as an Experienced Researcher
in the UK. Strong numerical programming skills in Mathematica, R, Matlab or C++ (or equivalent)
a good knowledge of financial products and financial methods (e.g. stochastic calculus, Monte-
Carlo techniques) are key requirements.
++Please note there are strict *eligibility requirements* which apply to all Marie Curie Fellows.
Nationals or residents of the UK *cannot* usually apply. At the time of appointment, applicants
should have no more than 5 years’ experience (FTE) after graduation and should not have resided
in the UK for more than 12 months in the last 3 years immediately before appointment.++
Informal enquiries should be made, in the first instance, to Professor Ser-Huang Poon at serhuang.
