Post-doc position in Biostatistics in the Netherlands Empty Post-doc position in Biostatistics in the Netherlands

Thu 30 May 2013 - 16:04
Please find below the announcement for a post-doc position at the Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands:

Post Doctoral position in Biostatistics within the MIMOmics EU collaborative research project.

The Department of Medical Statistics and Bioinformatics of Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC, The Netherlands) has a new post doctoral position available in the area of prediction methods for high-dimensional (omics) data. The appointee will be based at the LUMC and join the international MIMOmics network of experts which is funding this project. MIMOmics is a large and unique European transnational research collaboration between statisticians, bioinformaticians, molecular epidemiologists and system biologists which has as primary objective the development of statistical methodology for the analysis and integration of multiple distinct “omics” data sources which are derived from distinct levels of human biological response and using distinct measurement platforms and populations.

The successful applicant will become part of this international team and is expected to research and apply existing statistical methods for meaningful application and development of suitable analysis approaches, as well as develop new methodology where required. A degree in statistics and experience of application in data analysis, good communication and computing skills are required. Knowledge of high-dimensional data analysis, possibly for the analysis of omics data would be beneficial.
People interested in this position could refer to the MIMOmics website for more information on this network and the project (http://www.mimomics.eu/), check the departmental web pages (see: www.lumc.nl), or contact Bart Mertens for informal discussion (b.mertens@lumc.nl, tel: 00 31 71 526 9706 or 00 31 6 413 55 368). MIMOmics is a collaborative project funded by the European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement no. 305280, research area FP7-HEALTH-2012-INNOVATION-1, topic HEALTH.2012.2.1.1-3: Statistical methods for collection and analysis of –omics data.

The Department of Medical Statistics and Bioinformatics is one of the leading and largest European research groups in the field of biostatistical method development and application. Department members have expertise on a wide range of topics, including statistical methodology and application in meta-analysis, survival analysis, multi-state modeling, statistical methods for diagnosis, prognostic modeling, statistical bioinformatics, statistics for genetics, longitudinal modeling, Bayesian inference, quality indicators, causal modeling and web-based data management. Staff members have long running close collaborations with many departments within the LUMC on the design and implementation of studies, data analysis, interpretation, critical review and publication of the results.

The LUMC offers highly competitive salaries for post doctoral researchers, including social security and pension benefits. The appointment will be for two years in the first instance.
