Current methods in haplotype analysis focus on candidate gene studies in case-control studies. This position will extend these methods to encompass genome wide data, family studies and longitudinal studies. Cutting edge data for family studies in longevity and facial measurement as well as follow-up data in rheumathoid athritis is available. You will present your work on international conferences and publish papers in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, you will be involved in some teaching in biostatistics and statistical genetics to students and researchers.
The department
You will work within the Medical Statistics group of the Department of Medical Statistics and Bioinformatics. The section Medical Statistics is the largest medical statistics research group in the Netherlands, consisting of nine permanent staff members. The section focuses on the development and improvement of statistical methods for medical research and on statistical consulting for researchers in the LUMC. Research is concentrated in the areas of genetics, genomics, proteomics, survival analysis, meta-analysis, clinical trials and epidemiological studies. One of the research interests is statistical genetics, developing methodology and analytical tools for data from genetic studies. The group of statistical genetics (six members) works on methods for linkage analysis, the analysis of genome wide association scans and on modeling the relation between known genetic factors and various outcomes. The group collaborates with several outstanding groups within the LUMC.
Your Profile
You hold a master degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or a similar discipline. You are a creative and motivated researcher with good writing and didactical skills. You possess excellent communication skills and are fluent in both written and spoken English.
