Scientific Challenges and Problems in Football Analytics
Topics: Statistics , Data Analytics
Wednesday, 09 December 2020, 15:00-16:15
Zoom Room: https://zoom.us/j/96529398305?pwd=eGgrSS9GUWQvSGp2TzV3aGI0MFRBZz09
Presenter: Ntzoufras Ioannis, Athens University Economics and Business
ABSTRACT
In this presentation, I will briefly review, present and discuss the main challenges, problems and methods used in modern Football Analytics. The main topics that will be presented are: offline prediction, within game prediction, player evaluation and sports economics. Some of the methodologies we discuss are Poisson based models for scores, Survival analysis for inline game prediction, and the mixed models for player evaluation. Finally, presentation will close with considerations about measuring competitive balance in Sports leagues and some basic concepts about how to design “fair” but also intriguing football contests.
