Period: A fixed-term contract for one year with the possibility of extension up to four years

The successful candidates are expected to start working in the period November 2023/January 2024. Starting date is negotiable.

Location: Department of Primary Education, University of Ioannina, Ioannina, Greece

We are seeking two research associates to work on the following project: “Unraveling the impact of Radiofrequency in Liver Surgery (LIVERATION funded by the European Union: HORIZON EUROPE, https://liveration.eu/).
LIVERATION is an ambitious multicenter clinical trial with patients with colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in seven different countries to determine if the additional ablation margin produced by radiofrequency can decrease the recurrence rate and improve patient survival.
The successful candidates will join the Evidence Synthesis Methods Group (www.esm.uoi.gr), which consists of two faculty member, three post-doc researchers and three PhD students. The aim of the group is to develop statistical methods, primarily but not limited, for evidence synthesis. The group participates or has participated in various research programs and has a wide range of collaborators from various fields in Greece and abroad.
Our primary roles in this project are.
- Conduct the trial statistical analysis to assess the efficacy of radiofrequency in reducing the recurrence rate and improve survival in CRLM and HCC patients.
- Conduct a network meta-analysis to estimate the relative efficacy of competing interventions in reducing the recurrence rate and improve survival in CRLM and HCC patients.
- Analysis of questionnaires related to quality of life, patient reported experience and outcome measured of CRLM and HCC patients.
The successful applicants are expected to.
- Do the necessary analyses as described in the project roles.
- Extend and/or develop statistical methods (e.g., for network meta-analyses, survival analyses).
- Develop easy-to-use software and online tools that will implement the developed methods.
- Collaborate with scientists of diverse backgrounds (e.g., statisticians, medical doctors, epidemiologists) in Greece and abroad.
- Present results in international conferences and publish them in peer-reviewed journals.
Requirements
- A university degree (MSc or equivalent) in biostatistics/statistics
- Programming skills in at least one computer language
- Fluency in English, both written and oral.
- Experience with meta-analysis would be desirable.
- Experience with survival analysis would be desirable.
- Publications related to statistics and epidemiology would be desirable.
