Location: School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland.
Salary: £29,099 - £35,788.
Duration of appointment: 2 years from 1 February 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Closing date: 6 January 2012.

The topic of this postdoctoral position is the mathematics of the management of uncertainty in energy networks, in particular the real-time prediction of variable inputs, and the integration of storage and time-shifting of demand. The post forms part of a joint EPSRC project between Heriot-Watt, Cambridge and Durham Universities.

Candidates should have a strong mathematical background and should ideally hold a PhD in probability or statistics. They should have the potential to contribute to all aspects of the project, working with a broad range of mathematicians, statisticians and power-systems engineers at the three universities.
