POST‐DOC VISITING POSITION IN MEDICAL STATISTICS IN VIENNA, AUSTRIA
Temporary replacement to be filled ASAP
The Section of Medical Statistics (IMS) at the Medical University of Vienna invites applications for a visiting Assistant Professor as temporary replacement for a staff member on leave. We seek individuals with a strong foundation in statistical methodology with applications in clinical and biomedical science doing outstanding research. A PhD in statistics, mathematics or related science is required. This position is ideal for statisticians that would like to further their research experience abroad as part of an innovative research group in medical statistics (knowledge of German is not required).
The successful candidate will contribute to the IMS’ research program on the development of statistical methods for medical research (as, innovative clinical trial design and analysis, Bayesian statistical methods, missing data, multiple testing, large scale data analysis in bioinformatics, non‐parametric statistics, …).
The IMS, headed by Prof. Martin Posch, is part of the Center for Medical Statistics, Informatics, and Intelligent Systems (CeMSIIS) at the Medical University of Vienna. The department is located in the centre of Vienna and can be easily reached by public transport. It has a long standing tradition in medical statistics with an outstanding track record both in innovative methodological and medical research. It has a strong working group on adaptive designs and multiple testing including Emeritus Prof Peter Bauer. Another research focus is statistical methods for large scale data analysis with applications in genetics. Please note that we explicitly invite also candidates with statistical research expertise in other fields. Furthermore, the IMS is involved in the design and analysis of clinical trials in collaboration with physicians running studies at the university hospital.
The Section of Medical Statistics provides the statistics courses for the medical curriculum of the Medical University of Vienna and contributes to the PhD‐program “Medical Informatics, Biostatistics and Complex Systems” (the latter is taught in English only).

The position is to be filled as soon as possible. To ensure full consideration, applications have to be received by HR of the Medical University of Vienna by December 4, 2012.
