The Position
The Department of Biostatistics and the Department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery of the Erasmus Medical Center (Erasmus University), Rotterdam, the Netherlands have a vacancy for a joint fulltime PhD student in biostatistics on the topic of Prognostic Joint Models for Longitudinal and Time-to-Event Data. This is a fully funded position for a period of 4 years, starting from October/November 2015. This position is primarily focused on research, but the PhD student also will be expected to assist in the teaching and consulting responsibilities.
The Department of Biostatistics of Erasmus MC is well known for its innovative statistical research in analyzing complex data structures (longitudinal and survival data, correlated data, missing data, censored data, misclassification data, Bayesian techniques, smoothing techniques, etc.). The Department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery provides cardiac and thoracic surgical services to more than 1500 patients annually. It forms the Thoraxcenter together with the Departments of Cardiology and Pulmonary disease. The Department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery has several research lines that are embedded in COEUR, the cardiovascular research school at Erasmus MC.
Profile of Successful Candidates
Successful candidates are expected to have a strong background and preferably hold a master’s degree in Statistics/Biostatistics or a related field. Knowledge of mixed effects models, survival analysis, Bayesian statistics, R and C++ will be considered a plus. A good command of the English language is a prerequisite.
