We are thrilled to announce the Conferment Ceremony of the Professor of the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, Sir David John Spiegelhalter, to an Honorary Doctorate of the Department of Statistics, School of Information Sciences and Technology, Athens University of Economics and Business. The ceremony will take place on May 17th, at the ''Leonidas Zervas'' Amphitheater of the National Hellenic Research Foundation. The Honoree will also deliver a Speech, entitled "Why the study of statistics and data science is so vital for the future".
Sir David John Spiegelhalter is Emeritus Professor of Statistics in the Center for Mathematical Sciences (University of Cambridge), Fellow of Churchill College (University of Cambridge) and Chair of the Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication (University of Cambridge).
He has been very busy over the Covid-19 crisis. He has presented the BBC4 documentaries “Tails you Win: the Science of Chance”, as well as the award-winning “Climate Change by Numbers”.
His bestselling books are: “The Art of Statistics”, published in March 2019 and “Covid by Numbers”, published in September 2021.
He was knighted (Sir) in 2014, for services to medical statistics. He was President of the Royal Statistical Society for 2017-2018 and became a Non-Executive Director of the UK Statistics Authority in 2020.
