Studentships for the MSc in Statistics @ Lancaster University
Wed 22 Feb 2012 - 21:31
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Lancaster University is pleased to announce the availability of a number of studentships and scholarships for students following our one year taught MSc in Statistics.
1. STUDENTSHIPS, which cover full fees and living costs.
o 3 studentships provided by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). These are intended to support students who wish to go on to work as statisticians in areas of benefit to the National Health Service. These grants are open to UK and EU students
o 3 studentships provided by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), intended for students who wish to go on to study for a PhD in statistics. These grants are open to UK students.
o Other MSc studentships may become available.
2. SCHOLARSHIPS, which provide a contribution towards the student's fees.
o 6x1.5k Lancaster University Graduate School scholarships for UK/EU students.
o 1x3k Lancaster University Graduate School scholarships for an overseas student.
The MSc course provides a theoretical and practical basis for a career
either as a professional statistician or as a statistical researcher.
Students attend core modules on the mathematical underpinnings of
statistics and on fundamental techniques including modern ideas of
computationally intensive statistics.
Optional modules allow students
to follow pathways in medical, pharmaceutical or environmental
statistics, although students supported by the NIHR will be expected to
concentrate on choices within the first two of these pathways. During
the summer students undertake a 3 month dissertation; for NIHR students
this will arise from a real medical dataset or a new development in
statistical methodology for medical research.
