POSTDOCTORAL POSITION in Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Operations Research @ University of Athens

Job Description:
The Department of Mathematics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is seeking
a highly qualified postdoctoral research candidate to work on the project “Optimization of
stochastic systems under partial information and applications”. The work consists of:
a) Literature research in the areas of stochastic optimization, game theory and service systems
under incomplete information.
b) Participation in the study and research in at least one of the following areas: “Adaptive control
of stochastic systems under constraints”, “Models of learning in games”, and “Strategic behavior
and the price of anarchy in service systems under incomplete information”.
c) Participation in preparation of technical reports and scientific papers with the research results.
d) Implementation of algorithms and/or simulation methods for the application and evaluation of
the theoretical research results.
e) Participation in the dissemination of the results through conference presentations.
f) Participation in the organization of research workshops.
The position is funded by the European Union (European Social Fund – ESF) and Greek national
funds through the Operational Program "Education and Lifelong Learning" of the National
Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF).
The position is for 6 months maximum with a total remuneration cost of 10,500 Euro, before all
legal deductions. The position will be based at the Univ. of Athens.
Qualifications
One of:
A
Ph.D. in Statistics / Operations Research
Or B
Ph.D. in Mathematics
Strong background and experience in performance evaluation and/or optimization of
stochastic systems, which is substantiated by at least one of the following:
o Postdoctoral position in Statistics, or Stochastic Optimisation, or Stochastic
Modeling.
o Work experience in Statistics, or Stochastic Optimisation, or Stochastic Modeling
after the University degree.
and Excellent knowledge of English.
Additional desirable qualifications
Research experience in Dynamic Programming or Game Theory or Queueing Theory,
which is substantiated by published or submitted papers or technical reports.
Experience in programming and/or usage of mathematical software for implementation of
Statistics and Operations Research methodologies, which is substantiated by published or
submitted papers or technical reports, which include computational applications.
